A Biomax Symposium – co-hosted by CASyM
The 2014 Biomax Symposium focused on the challenges and opportunities of translating systems medicine into practice.

Expert presentations highlighted the many opportunities of systems medicine throughout the day.

“We are trying to treat the individual with the knowledge of all,” said Dr. Emiel Wouters from CIRO+ (Center of Expertise for Chronic Organ Faliure).

"The patient needs to be the center piece of systems medicine,“ Michael Wilken from the Deutsche Patientenliga Atemwegserkrankungen (COPD patient advocacy group) pointed out. “Operational excellence demonstrated in real-world examples suggests that challenges reside in creating an innovative healthcare ecosystem that supports systems medicine thereby putting the patient in the center.“

SYMPOSIUM COVERAGE IN SCIENTIFIC COMPUTING WORLD
Thank you, Robert Roe, for attending and covering the 2014 Biomax Symposium with a series of articles.

The first in the series, “Treating the individual, with the knowledge of all," provides an overview of how knowledge management integrates data to make predictive medicine a reality. Read the article here.

The second, “Can informatics turn data into medical treatment?” explores the multidisciplinary nature of personalized medicine and how “knowledge as a service” can help practitioners make better decisions. Read this article here.

The digital edition of the magazine is free worldwide.
